Bassett Acoustics assessed the environmental noise emission from the existing John Gilbert Water Treatment Plant (WTP), Dubbo, and predicted noise emissions from a proposed augmentation.
The proposed augmentation will increase the capacity of the plant to 80ML/d and improve the treated water quality.
The work included
- Background noise measurements at a nearby residential location
- Analysis of these measurements, with respect to meteorological and topographical conditions, to determine appropriate environmental noise criteria
- Measurement of the noise levels emitted from existing equipment
- Determination of the contribution of the existing WTP to the ambient noise environment
- Prediction of the likely environmental noise emission from the proposed augmentation at neighbouring residential properties taking account of meteorological conditions
- Comparison of these calculated noise levels with the environmental noise criteria
- Design of appropriate noise control measures for both the existing and proposed components of the WTP
- Prediction of likely construction noise levels and recommendation of noise control measures to ensure these will be at an acceptable level
The assessment demonstrated that the calculated environmental noise levels at all the neighbouring properties complied with environmental noise criteria.
