John is Principal of Bassett and a qualified mechanical engineer with over 30 years experience as a consulting engineer, specialising in healthcare, laboratory and institutional projects. He joined Kuttner Collins in 1972 and became a Director of Bassett following the merger of Bassett and Kuttner Collins and Partners in Victoria. He has extensive experience in managing multi-disciplinary building projects. His experience in healthcare and laboratory projects has resulted in extensive multi-disciplinary knowledge in all aspects of high-tech facilities and in particular detailed knowledge of the operations of all hospital departments. John has a keen interest in sustainable development and in specialist areas in hospital and laboratory developments including operating theatres, clean rooms, sterility, infection control and emerging healthcare technologies.

John was the engineering services team leader for the $400m Austin and Mercy Hospital project from 2001 to 2004 and relocated to New Zealand in 2005/2006 to lead the $110m Tauranga Hospital project and to provide specialist support for the $220m Waikato hospital redevelopment. Most recently he has been involved in masterplanning major healthcare developments and peer reviewing healthcare projects in Victoria, interstate and overseas.
