Client Needs
To redevelop the existing 600 bed hospital to provide a new 86,000m2 tertiary health care facility serving the South Brisbane region.

Bassett Solution
The scope required the redevelopment of the entire Princess Alexandra Hospital site, the cornerstone element being the new 600 bed Acute Building. The challenge, successfully achieved, was to do so whilst the facility remained fully operational. Bassett undertook this project with an alliance partner in a joint venture arrangement.

The Acute Building was procured in two stages under a Construction Management contract. Stage 1 involved delivery of the building shell including reticulated infrastructure services from the Central Energy Unit, provision of basement substations, LV infrastructure throughout the building to the floor distribution boards and installation of the lifts. Stage 2 involved the fitout of the building and all its associated building services.

Value for Client
World's best practice was brought to this project through a detailed overseas study tour that reviewed up to 20 hospitals throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The building incorporates a state of the art health care engineering services, such as PACS, telemedicine and electronic medical records.
